Trans Identities and Trans Migrations: Nagotiating (Trans)Masculinity and (Trans)Ethnic Identity Among "Return" Japanese Americans/American Nikkei
The purpose of this research project is to address the gap in academic literature on the experiences of Asian American trans masculine individuals and also modern transnational experiences in the Nikkei community. This is an exploratory study examining the tensions and negotiations of (trans)gender and ethnic identity across domestic and transnational borders in the Japanese diaspora. This study will be conducted through one to one-and-a-half hour long semi-structured interviews. This research project has been reviewed and approved by my institutional ethics committee #2022-63.For the purposes of this study and recognizing the legacies of Japanese imperialism, those of Okinawan/Uchinanchu, Ainu, and Zainichi Korean descent are also eligible to participate in this study.
